Monthly Meeting
Invitation to Monthly meeting No 1
To be held on Saturday 30 January at 14:00 in the Dakota Lodge next to Hangar 5 at Rand Airport.
The goal is to re-establish the Dakota Association of South Africa, a non-profit volunteer organisation, dedicated to the collection and preservation of all matters relating to the Douglas DC-3 and C-47 aircraft.

Seek a venue to house any memorabilia the Association should acquire via donations, items like books, photographs, models, ephemera etc. Chat to SAA Museum Society re space for prefab type building in their aircraft park.

Establish a date for AGM (Suggestion is March month, after financial year end which will be end of February.)

Establish a date for monthly meetings. (Suggestions are:

The first Thursday of every month at 18H00. The January meeting will be the last Thursday of the month, to allow members to return from annual leave.)

|
Obtain the services of a legal advisor, preferably a member who will provide the service free of charge.

|
Locate past members.
Recruit new members.

|
Establish yearly membership fees; Adults, Children, Pensioners

Business plan
|
Establish a Business Plan and long-term goals and aspirations. (The momentum gained during the lead up to the 75th Anniversary must not be allowed to dissipate after the event. The Association with its members will need to focus on the future of the organisation post 2010 functions.)

Committee
A Committee consisting of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected for terms of two (2) years each. Each person so selected shall hold office for the term for which he/she is selected, and until his successor has been selected. Officers may serve for more than one term.
Committee members’ responsibilities
Chairman.
To preside over all monthly meetings as well as the AGM.
Perform all duties customary to that office and shall supervise and control all of the affairs of DASA
The Chairman may delegate authority and responsibility but shall remain fully accountable.
Vice Chairman
In the absence of the Chairman or in the event of his inability to serve, the Vice-Chairman shall perform the duties of the Chairman, and, when so acting, shall have all the powers of and be subject to all the restrictions upon the Chairman.
Secretary.
The Secretary shall be responsible for the keeping of an accurate record of the proceedings of all meetings of the Committee and at monthly meetings.
The secretary will also have access to all correspondence, written or electronic and shall make such available at monthly meetings.
The secretary shall answer correspondence where applicable and copy in the rest of the committee.
Treasurer.
The Treasurer shall have the custody of, and be responsible for, all funds of DASA. All banking and where possible all transactions will be done electronically. All cash will be banked for accurate record keeping.
Whenever required the Treasurer shall render a statement of accounts.
The Treasurer shall at all reasonable times exhibit the books and accounts to anyone who requests them.

All portfolio holders and sub-committees must give full accounts of monthly activities and progress reports at monthly meetings under the heading general.

75th Oshkosh Function
|
The idea is to take a South African DC-3 to Oshkosh.
A sub-committee to be elected to attend to this event.

The total flight time will be around 85 hr there and 85 back with scheduled maintenance (inspections are every 60hr) both ways at Air Atlantique's facility at Coventry.
The carriage of passengers is only possible on selected parts of the route due to fuel/weight restrictions.
Fuel calculations are 100 USG per hour and oil at 2 USG per hour.
AirBp have been approached for for assistance. We await their response.

Douglas DC-3
|
To find for the Association a Douglas DC-3 which can be wholly owned by the Dakota Association of South Africa. Be officially legally registered with the CAA, whether serviceable or not.

SAAF 6850. The Dakota Association of South Africa has been invited by the South African National Museum of Military History to get their recently acquired C-47 into "live status" and get the engines running. Brendan Odell will head up this project. For further details see C/N 27099 |

|
To assist in obtaining funds for the society.
To assist any subcommittee with acquiring sponsorship in the form of hard cash or in the form of actively performing a specific task e.g. relocation of goods requiring transport.

To actively track the histories of Douglas DC-2 and DC-3 aircraft in South Africa and Africa
|
|
Marketing/recruitment
|
To actively promote the activities of DASA by way of all means possible, preferably at no cost to the Association

|
To keep electronic record of all members and their contact details.

To establish who has not paid their subs and notify them accordingly.

Photographer
|
To take photographs, preferably in electronic format, at events and functions that are related to DASA e.g. air shows where Douglas DC-3 aircraft are present.
To take photographs of any Douglas DC-3 restoration projects.
To obtain permission prior to taking photographs.
To send any photographs to the webmaster

|
Public Relations and Media Liaison officer
|
To keep the media informed of DASA activities with specific reference to the 75th Anniversary functions, local and overseas.
To liaise with the newsletter editor and marketing and fundraising personnel.

|
Restoration manager
|
To oversee any restoration work conducted on any of the Associations artefacts and memorabilia.
To give regular progress reposts at monthly meetings as well as to the newsletter editor and webmaster.

|
Shop Manager
|
To purchase suitable items for resale in the DASA shop.
To purchase on consignment where possible.
To negotiate with suppliers good prices.
To keep accurate accounting records in conjunction with the treasurer.
To set up shop facilities for various functions such as air shows
To recruit members to assist with the shop at functions
To advise the webmaster of items available from the shop.

Tour guide/function manager
|
To arrange tours to DC-3 aircraft as well as DASA Display Hall and Library as per client or visitor request.
To liaise with operators of DC-3 aircraft to arrange visits.
